Description

The Knight shift and the magnetic susceptibility of ZrV2, Zrsub(0.99)Ptsub(0.01)V2, and Zrsub(0.9)Fesub(0.1)V2 intermetallic compounds are investigated. The obtained effective magnetic moments show that in these compounds the d electrons of V and Fe atoms are well localized and that in the compound Zrsub(0.99)Ptsub(0.01)V2 a giant magnetic moment on the Pt atoms is induced by strong conduction electron polarization. The hyperfine field arising from the d core polarization is estimated as -0.2 x 106 Oe/spin for all compounds. The phenomenological exchange constant between the localized d electrons of Pt atoms and the conduction electrons is evaluated as 0.0242 eV. (author)
