Intrabeam scattering in the CERN antiproton accumulator

Description
The existing theories of intrabeam scattering, valid for high-energy rings (γ >= 10), are improved and modified to give results applicable to the CERN Antiproton Accumulator (AA), which operates at lower energies (γ approx.= 3.77). A comparison is made between theoretical evaluations and measured data, gathered by loading the AA with high-intensity proton beams. The agreement obtained is rather satisfactory and this represents the first experimental shock of the most up to date intrabeam-scattering theories. (author)
