Photocatalytic oxidation of methane to formaldehyde on tungsten oxide surface

Description
The influence of temperature and water vapor presence on the rate of methane photocatalytic oxidation into formaldehyde, taking place on the surface of tungsten polycrystal trioxide, is studied in the range of 323-623 K. It is ascertained that probable mechanism of the photocatalytic process involves homolytic break of methane C-H bonds and water O-H bonds, when the molecules are captured by photo-induced electron acceptor centers O- on WO3 surface and a series of subsequent reactions resulting in formaldehyde formation
Abstract (Russian)
В интервале 323-623 К изучено влияние температуры и присутствия паров воды на скорость фотокаталитического окисления метана в формальдегид, протекающего на поверхности поликристаллического триоксида вольфрама. Установлено, что вероятный механизм фотокаталитического процесса включает гомолитический разрыв связей С-Н метана и О-Н воды при захвате этих молекул фотоиндуцированными электроноакцепторными центрами О- поверхности WO3 и серию последующих реакций, приводящих к образованию формальдегидаAdditional details
