Sensitivity of alpha track detectors (ATD) for detecting radon and radon decay products

Description
Five types of alpha track detector (ATD) have been studied in determining the sensitivity for detecting radon and radon decay products in equilibrium with radon. The ATDs were films of LR-115 type ii, CR-39 Patras and CN-85. The best chemical etching conditions of these solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD) have also examined. From all the ATDs examined it was found that CR-39 detectors had the highest sensitivity as high as 0.3 tracks cm/sup -2/ kBq/sup -1/ m/sup 3/h/sup -1/ for measuring equilibrium equivalent radon (EER) concentrations. No correlation did exist between the sensitivity and the exposure time of ATDs. (author)
