The test of nuclear models using E2 transitions for rare earth deformed nuclei
Description
The collective model of Bohr and Mottelson and interacting boson model of Arima and Iachello are tested through comparing the changes of B(E2) values with angular momenta for rare earth deformed even-even nuclei. Some conclusions are drawn such as β surface vibrations are absent or not important and the γ surface vibrations or deformations are important for most of rare earth deformed nuclei. The B(E2) values for transitions within the ground state band can not be fitted by the models
