Description
Accelerated heavy ions leave their trace clearly and unmistakably in solids. The areas of interference formed, which are stable and nearly one-dimensional, can be developed in many isolating materials - crystals, glasses and polymers - to superfine microstructures. According to prevailing conditions, elementary forms may arise, such as funnels, ball sockets or channels with parallel walls. Duplicate moulding then permits to transfer such structures to other materials. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Beschleunigte schwere Ionen zeichnen ihre Bahn eindeutig und unverwechselbar in den Festkoerper ein. Die gebildeten, stabilen, quasi-eindimensionalen Stoerungszonen lassen sich in vielen isolierenden Materialien - Kristallen, Glaesern und Polymeren - zu feinsten Mikrostrukturen entwickeln. Je nach gegebenen Bedingungen entstehen elementare Formen wie Trichter, Kugelpfannen oder parallelwandige Kanaele. Durch Abformung, z.B. mit galvanischen Verfahren, koennen die Strukturen auf andere Materialien uebertragen werden. (orig.)Additional details
