Uranium estimation in drinking water samples of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh using ICP-MS

Description

In the present investigations, uranium concentration in drinking water samples of some areas of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, India has been estimated using ICP-MS. The water samples were collected from hand pumps in the studied area. The uranium concentration in collected water samples ranges from 0.26 ppb to 24.51 ppb. According to WHO (2003) uranium concentration in 3 out of 25 total samples is more than the recommended safe limit of 15 ppb. The data obtained using ICP-MS technique is also compared with the fission track registration technique and a very good correlation (0.95) between the two techniques has been found. (author)
