Position sensitive detector for β spectrometers

  • 1. AN Kazakhskoj SSR, Alma-Ata. Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

Positron sensitive detector (PSD) placed into beta spectrometer focal plane is described. The detector overall dimensions are 90x30x100 mm. To detect electrons microchannel plate (MCP) chevron is used. The distance between the plates is 0.15 mm and the applied potential difference is 250 V. A charge escaping from M CP gets to a wire delay line placed at o.5 mm distance from chevron and appearing to be an organic glass plate with 2x20 mm cross section and a gold-plated wire 28 μm in diameter, coiled to the plate at 0.1 mm pitch. PSD application increases the data setting rate in a beta spectrometer by two orders and improves 5-10 times signal/background relation
