VERA, a dedicated AMS facility for all isotopes

  • 1. Vienna Environmental Research Accelerator, Institute for Isotope Research and Nuclear Physics, Univ. of Vienna, Vienna (Austria)

Description

VERA is a dedicated facility for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), based on a 3-MV pelletron tandem accelerator from NEC. The facility came into operation in 1996 providing AMS measurements of the most common cosmogenic radionuclides 14C, 10Be, and 26Al. In the year 2000, a high-resolution electrostatic analyser was added, extending the capability for AMS measurements throughout the nuclear chart. In addition to the radionuclides mentioned above, it is now possible to measure 129I, 182Hf, 210Pb, 236U, and 244Pu
