Elastic scattering of 1 GeV protons by helium isotopes

Description

Differential cross sections for 1-GeV proton elastic scattering on the 3He and 4He nuclei have been measured. The differential cross sections are analyzed in terms of the Glauber-Sitenko theory. The experimentally observed filling of the cross section minima is explained due to different momentum transfer dependences of the real and imaginary parts of the central proton-nucleon amplitudes. The difference between the root-mean-square radii on neutron and proton distributions is -0.3+-0.2 fm for the 3He nucleus and -0.11+-0.07 fm for 4He
