Fundamental study on fault development process in the ground by centrifugal model experiment

Description
Centrifugal fault model experiment using Toyoura sand with no adhesiveness and mixed soil with adhesiveness was carried out. Experiments were conducted to generate faults at fault angles of 60 degrees and 75 degrees at gravity field and centrifugal acceleration 50 G field. The following was shown. (1) It was revealed that the mixed material was affected by the restraint pressure more than Toyoura sand and the shear band width narrowed when the restraint pressure was large. (2) By appropriately modeling the shear strength after tensile fracture, it is considered that it can be reproduced the behavior and form of the fault near the ground surface by FEM. (author)
