Allende meteorite: cosmochemistry's Rosetta Stone

Creators

  • 1. Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC

Description

The detailed chemical and mineralogical analyses of the Allende meteorite, a large carbonaceous chondrite. The arrival of the meteorite coincided with the Apollo II acquisition of lunar samples, and simultaneous comparative studies were performed on these materials. Elemental abundances, mineralogical composition, isotopic age estimates, and structure are discussed. (5 figures, 3 tables, 26 references) (GMT)
