Influence of the nuclear surface on the level density and fission probability

  • 1. Physics and Power Engineering Institute, Obninsk (USSR)

Description

A phenomenological version of description of level density in the framework of the generalized superfluid model of the nucleus has been used to analyze the observed density of neutron resonances and fissility of nuclei. A consistent point of view is developed on the A-dependence of the asymptotic level-density parameter a and the ratio of these parameters a/sub f/ /a/sub n/ in the fission and neutron channels. It is concluded that the influence of the nuclear surface on these characteristics has been exaggerated in many studies
