Description
The transient field technique has been used to determine the g-factor of the 42+ state at 6.010 MeV excitation in 24Mg. The deduced value of g=+0.5(4) is consistent with collective model expectations. Further, the equality within experimental accuracies, of the g-factors of the 21+, 22+, 41+ and 42+ states agrees with theoretical predictions for this T=0 self-conjugate nucleus, in contrast to the results for 20Ne.
