Description

The notions of coarse graining and decoherence, introduced recently by Gell-Mann and Hartle for quantum cosmology, have been reformulated in usual terms of the formal von Neumann measurement theory. The formalism of continuous measurement has shown to be equivalent to coarse graining, with the soft version of decoherence. (orig.)
