Control element vibrations during abnormal core barrel motion in a WWER-440 pressure vessel

Description
During abnormal core barrel motion of the Greifswald-Block 2 reactor significant phase - and coherency relationships of the neutron density oscillations were observed. A numerical algorithm was developed to clarify this phenomenon, which worked on the non-linear equations of motion for a double pendulum. Further experiments were carried out on a small physical model of the control elements to verify qualitatively these numerical results. It could be proved that the typical signals observed on the Greifswald Block-2 reactor stemmed from mechanical stop processes between the control elements and neighbouring fuel containers. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Waehrend der anomalen Kernbehaelterbewegung bei einem Reaktor vom Typ WWER-440 (Greifswald Block 2) wurden signifikante Phasen- und Kohaerenzbeziehungen zwischen dem Excore- und dem Incoreneutronenrauschen beobachtet. Fuer die Erklaerung der Phaenomene wurde ein numerischer Algorithmus entwickelt, der auf den nichtlinearen Bewegungsgleichungen eines Doppelpendels beruht. Zur qualitativen Verifizierung der numerischen Resultate wurden ausserdem Experimente an einem kleinen physischen Modell der Regelelemente durchgefuehrt. Es konnte nachgewiesen werden, dass die am WWER-440 beobachteten typischen Signalmuster von mechanischen Anschlagvorgaengen zwischen Regelelementen und benachbarten Brennstoffkassetten herruehren.
