Determination of 126Sn in radwaste samples from NPP A1 Jaslovske Bohunice

Description

This paper presents a method for determination of Sn-126 in various samples such as concentrate, scrubber water, long pound water etc. using Eichrom DiphonixTM resin, microwave digestion and precipitation. Samples are traced with Sn-113 - chemical yields ranging from 60 to 90 %, evaporated to near dryness and dissolved in 0.1 M HNO3. Then they were passed through preconditioned Diphonix column. Tin is retained on column. The column is washed with 1 M HNO3. Contaminants such as Cs-137, Co-60, dominant nuclides on NPP A1, are removed from the column. Resin is extruded from the column and measured on gamma HP-Ge detector. If contaminants such as Eu-154, traces of Cs-137, Co-60 are presented resin is digested in microwave oven. Tin is precipitated and filtered through 0.45 mm filter. After 24 hours (after ingrowth of In-113 daughter of Sn-113) the filter is measured on gamma detector for Sn-126 activity determination.
