Lattice explorations of TeV physics

Description

I discuss the extent of the conformal window for an SU(3) gauge theory with Nf Dirac fermions in the fundamental representation. I describe some recent work concluding that the theory is conformal in the infrared for Nf=12, governed by an infrared fixed point, whereas the Nf=8 theory exhibits confinement and chiral symmetry breaking. Thus the low end of the conformal window Nfc lies in the range 8≤Nfc≤12. I discuss open questions and the potential relevance to physics beyond the standard model. (author)
