Exploiting the economic advantages of nuclear power
Description
Electricite de France is planning to commission by 1985 some 40 000 MWe of nuclear capacity from standard 900 MWe and 1300 MWe PWRs and the first orders have been placed for a 1200 MWe fast breeder reactor. This programme is required not only to meet the increase in demand but to replace existing uneconomic fossil stations. After 1985 the optimum plant mix may require additional fossil peaking stations.
