Description

We present a proposal to measure the absolute velocity of H- stored in LEAR with high accuracy. The scheme foresees pulsed single ionization of H- inside LEAR and resonant laser spectroscopy on the emerging H0 bunches. Motional electric field ionization of excited H0 (excited at resonance by laser light) is envisaged to monitor the resonance situation. This method will permit to calibrate in absolute the average velocity of the particles stored in LEAR and to give a measurement of their velocity distribution complementary to the longitudinal shottky scan. 2 refs
