US Department of Energy grant to the Commonwealth of Virginia: Final technical report

Description

This report is provided in compliance with applicable portions of the Financial Assistance Rules (10 CFR 600) and DOE Order No. 4600.1 as well as conditions of the grant to the Commonwealth of Virginia for review of and participation in activities associated with the Crystalline Rock Project and the siting of a second repository for high level nuclear waste. The report contains a descriptive summary of research performed, data analyzed, and activities conducted under the United States Department of Energy (DOE) grant to the Commonwealth of Virginia, No. FG02-83NE44508. The period of the grant is from August 1, 1984, through December 31, 1986. Both the Commonwealth of Virginia and six of its political subdivisions affected by the DOE designation as potentially acceptable sites (PAS), named as SE-1, SE-2, and SE-3 in the DOE Draft Area Recommendation Report published on January 16, 1986, participated in research, data analysis, and activities in review of DOE activities in Virginia. The results of the analysis and review, findings of fact, and recommendations to the DOE are Crystalline Rock Project (CRP), on April 15, 1986. Because of the involvement of the Commonwealth in the process earlier than that to its political subdivisions, the report presents first a discussion of activities of the Commonwealth and, in a separate section, a summary discussion of the findings of political subdivisions
