Description
Sawtooth stabilization by local magnetic shear reduction is studied for DT plasmas that contain alpha particles. The magnetic shear critical to the onset of sawteeth is evaluated by taking the alpha particle pressure into account. The critical magnetic shear is found to be higher for lower densities and/or broader density profiles. The operation regime for sawtooth control is also discussed. (author). 19 refs, 8 figs
