Tests for the properties of solar gravity mode signals in total irradiance observations
Description
It has been found that a significant fraction of the gravity mode power density in the total irradiance observations appears in sidebands of classified eigenfrequencies. These sidebands are interpreted as harmonics of the rotational frequencies of the solar surface. The power density distributions in the sidebands are consistent with the observed differential rotation of the photosphere and the degree classifications of the respective gravity modes. These findings give further evidence that gravity mode signals are present in the total irradiance observations as well as give an independent check on the gravity mode detections and the /ell/ classifications. The small fraction of the power density remaining at the eigenfrequency of the gravity mode can account for the difficulty that has been experienced in detecting gravity mode signals in total irradiance observations. 14 refs., 4 tabs
