Failure problems of alloy x-750 in light water reactors an overview
Creators
Description
Alloy x-750 is a Ni-base super alloy. It is used in a variety of applications in light water reactors (LWRs) as core bolts, fuel assembly hold down springs, guide pins, control rod drive seals and jet pump beams. It suffers from the stress corrosion cracking (s cc) problem which affects the safety of the nuclear power station and increases costs for repair. In this paper the factors affecting the s cc of alloy x-750 have been reviewed. These factors included; the heat treatment (single or double aging), chromium and zirconium additives, the applied potential, the strain rates and the contents of sulphate, sulphate and oxygen in water. Mitigation of alloy x-750 s cc in LWRs is recommended to be through single aging treatment and controlling the stress of the components made of alloy x-750 to be≤ half its yield stress.10 fig., 1 tab
