Description

One of the most promising methods for heavy water production is the isotope exchange reaction between hydrogen gas and liquid water in a countercurrent flow system on a partly platinized high surface area carbon particles bonded and wetproofed by a special method to a catalytically active mass. The procedure for water/hydrogen exchange column for heavy water enrichment using hydrophobic catalyst is described. The catalyst was prepared from high surface area carbon-polytetrafluoroethylene mass deposited on the stainless steel Dixon rings. The activity of the catalyst was experimentally determined in the randomly packed countercurrent column in the temperature range between 10 and 600 C. (author)
