Numerical prediction of wall erosion due to a gas-solid suspension impinging jet
- 1. Kyushu Univ., Fukuoka (Japan)
Description
Erosion due to a gas-solid suspension impinging jet is predicted numerically by means of DSMC method for describing the interparticle collisions, which combined with erosion model determined by preliminary experiments. The numerical results confirm experimental observations performed in present paper on reduced erosion rates in proportion to increase in the solid loading ratio. By collisions between incident particles and rebounding particles, highly dense concentration region is formed, where impact velocity and angle of incident particle are decreased considerably, thereby preventing its collision with the wall. In respect to the mechanism of erosion, cutting wear becomes dominant, when increasing the solid loading ratio. (author)
