Sorption mechanism of anions on hydrated zirconium dioxide (HZD)

  • 1. Leningradskij Tekhnologicheskij Inst. (USSR)

Description

Sorption mechanism of inorganic anions Cl-, Br-, I-, NO3-, SO4-2 and PO4-3 on hydrated zirconium dioxide (HZD) has been studied. The sorption is studied under static conditions at the ratio between liquid and solid phases equal to 100. The data obtained have shown that sorption of all anions studied is accompanied by the increase of pH of the solutions. It testifies to ion-exchange sorption mechanism. Besides, it is shown that ion exchange is accompanied by ''molecular'' sorption electrolyte. The ratio of the amount of anions sorbed in ion-exchange and ''molecular'' way depends on their concentration. During sorption from 0.05 and 0.1 M solutions ion-exchange mechanism prevails. During sorption from 0.2 M solutions and more concentrated ones ''molecular'' sorption becomes more and more considerable
