The liability of the owner of a nuclear facility under the amendment to the Atomic Energy Act

Under the 3rd amendment to the Atomic Energy Act, which entered into force on October 1, 1975, not only the provisions of the Paris and Brussels Nuclear Liability Conventions have become binding law in the Federal Republic of Germany, but also other changes relating to the liability of the owner of a nuclear facility have become effective. On the whole, the new liability provisions greatly improve and expand the protection of victims. Major changes, inter alia, include legal channeling, the extended physical area of application, the higher maximum liability limit and liability coverage, and certain limits of damages. (orig.)
