Total hadronic cross section measurement at TOPAZ

  • 1. Nagoya Univ. (Japan). Dept. of Physics

Description

We have updated total hadronic cross section using 9886 multi hadron events taken by the TOPAZ detector. The tuning of Monte Carlo simulation gives less systematic error, especially the track reconstruction efficiency of the Time Projection Chamber(TPC) [4] was well reproduced. The measured hadronic cross section is, σ-barh=143.0±1.4(stat.)±4.4(syst.)pb. in effective Born approximation. The value of the electromagnetic running coupling constant α-bar(582GeV2) is also updated from the obtained cross section. 1/α-bar(582GeV2)=128.9±0.6(stat.)±2.0(syst.). This is the first observation of SU(2)xU(1) running coupling. And, this is one of the most fundamental contribution of TRISTAN experiment. (author)
