Description

An operation of a 10 MW high temperature reactor (HTR-10) creates a solid radioactive waste which has to be treated to avoid environmental pollution. Several solid wastes that are created during the operation are dust graphite, contaminated solids and filter drums. The current study investigates of the solid radioactive waste treatment that produces from the operation of HTR-10. Several studies treated the graphite waste using direct disposal after suitable packaging. Disposal after incineration, disposal after chemical treatment, conditioning, and proper packaging. The graphite waste treatments should consider wigner energy presence, the graphite type by the container size and weight, the dose level within the packaging, the heat output and surface contamination, and the radioactive releases in the normal condition, which are during the handling, transport and disposal, or accident. As for filter waste and contaminated solid waste processing call be done by compaction and cementation process. (author)
