Analysis of ion exchange processes using nuclear techniques

Description
Results of measurements, by means of Rutherford backscattering, of the surface concentration of potassium ions in sodium borosilicate and aluminosilicate glasses which have undergone a K+/Na+ ionic exchange in molten KNO3. The results agree with the diffusion equation. The surface concentration of potassium depends on the duration of the exchange. The backscattering technique makes it possible to obtain information on the ion exchange process for a layer of a thickness of less than 1 micron
