Analysis of the loss of coolant accident due to the faiture in the open position of two pressurizer relief valves, for Angra-1 nuclear power plant
Description
A study of the modeling techniques adequate for simulating the loss of coolant accident caused by stuck open pressurizer relief valves, using the RELAP4-MOD5 code, is performed and the model developed is applied to the analysis of this kind of accident for the Central Nuclear Almirante Alvaro Alberto Unit (Angra 1). The thermal hydraulic behavior of the reactor cooling system, when subjected to a loss of main feedwater followed by the failure in the open position of two pressurizer relief valves, is determined. The relief valves are assumed to fail in the totally open position, delivering the maximum massflow through the discharge line. The RELAP4-MOD5 code is shown to be adequate for this kind of analysis, and the detailed prediction of the thermal hydraulic behavior of the Reactor Coolant System is thus possible. The eficiency of the emergency core cooling system of Angra 1 is demonstrated, the fuel elements remaining covered by the coolant during all the accident, and the peak clad temperatures are kept within design limites, ensuring the integrity of the core. Estuda-se uma modelagem a ser adotada para simular o acidente de perda de refrigerante causado por falha na posicao aberta da valvula de alivio do pressurizador, para a Unidade 1 da Central Nuclear Almirante Alvaro Alberto (Angra-1), utilizando o codigo RELAP4-MOD5. Faz-se um estudo do comportamento termohidraulico do sistema de refrigeracao do reator quando submetido a perda de agua de alimentacao principal para os geradores de vapor e subsequente falha na posicao aberta de duas valvulas de alivio do pressurizador. E considerado que as valvulas falham totalmente abertas, liberando o maior inventario massico possivel atraves de sua linha de descarga. O codigo RELAP4-MOD5 mostrou-se adequado para a analise proposta, possibilitando obter-se uma previsao do comportamento termohidraulico do sistema. Observou-se a eficiencia do sistema de refrigeracao de emergencia do reator de Angra-1 em manter o nucleo refrigerado satisfatoriamente durante todo o acidente, fazendo com que a temperatura maxima do revestimento nao ultrapassasse os limites impostos pelas especificacoes de projeto garantindo assim a integridade do combustivel.
