Description

Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) is the world's leading electrical engineering group with about 180000 people in over 100 countries. ABB remains committed to nuclear power. Nuclear reactors already designed and built have achieved the highest load factors, and work continues on the development of new LWR and HTR systems. ABB's LWR fuel, for both pressurized and boiling water reactors, is kept at the technological forefront through extensive R and D focused on market needs. As an example, the SVEA fuel for BWRs offers an increasing number of customers lower fuel cycle costs and higher operational flexibility. The gas-cooled pebble-bed high temperature reactor has been successfully developed. Its passive safety and advanced thermal performance are well proven. An HTR power plant is now operating commercially. Work is in hand on the innovative SECURE reactor, a simplified light water reactor designed to the PIUS concept (Process Inherent Ultimate Safety). Based on a different configuration to existing LWRs, its inherent safety is achieved passively and guaranteed by the laws of nature. A broad range of services for operators of any type of nuclear power plant is provided worldwide. 1 fig
