Investigations on the influence of various binders on the reaction behaviour and properties of (Ta,Mo)Csub(1-x) and (Ta,W)Csub(1-x) hard metals

Description

Mixed carbide-binder metal combinations of tantalum molybdenum carbide (TaC, MoCsub(0.5) 100/0 to 70/30) or tantalum tungsten carbide (TaC/WCsub(0.5) 100/0 to 70/30) were prepared with 10 Mol % binder metal (Ni, Co, Fe, Cr). By means of Guinier pictures and microprobe investigations, the phases occuring depending on the composition were determined. Microstructure and hardness investigations were performed on microsection samples as well as bending strength measurements. Based on the results, the reaction behaviour in the hard metals investigated is described with two reactions between binder metal and mixed carbide. (IHoe)

Abstract (German)

Es wurden Mischkarbid-Bindemetall-Kombinationen aus Tantalmolybdaenkarbid (TaC/MoCsub(0,5) 100/0 bis 70/30) bzw. Tantalwolframkarbid (TaC/WCsub(0,5) 100/0 bis 70/30) mit 10 Mol. % Bindemetall (Ni, Co, Fe, Cr) hergestellt. Mit Hilfe von Guinier-Aufnahmen und Mikrorindenuntersuchungen wurden die in Abhaengigkeit von der Zusammensetzung auftretenden Phasen bestimmt. An Schliffproben wurden Gefuege- und Haerteuntersuchungen sowie Biegebruchfestigkeitsmessungen ausgefuehrt. Aufgrund der Ergebnisse wird das Reaktionsverhalten in den untersuchten Hartmetallen mit zwei Reaktionen zwischen Bindemetall und Mischkarbid beschrieben. (IHoe)
