Description
Japan Atomic Energy Commission emphasized the need for collaboration and cooperation between nuclear industry entities and research institutions. In response, CRIEPI established the 'Fuel Platform' to foster collaboration and facilitate collecting, organization, and sharing of scientific knowledge in the field of light water reactor fuel research and development. The activities of the Fuel Platform encompass fuel design and manufacturing, irradiation behavior of fuel and cladding, transient and accident response, transportation and storage, as well as modeling and simulation. Commissioned members representing nuclear industry entities such as power companies and fuel manufacturing companies, as well as research institutions, conducted investigations, categorization of research and development issues, and exploration of solutions and necessary infrastructure and technology for each identified challenge. Prioritizing high-importance and time-sensitive topics from an industry standpoint, the platform compiled the current status of research and development domestically and internationally, along with future research and development areas to be pursued. Those results are summarized in this report. The broad dissemination of these outcomes aims to serve as guidelines for domestic research and development institutions in selecting their research objectives. (author)
