Description
Deformation is a viable method of fabricating cuprate oxide superconductors. Deformation maps have been constructed for polycrystalline YBa2Cu3O7-x using the experimentally determined modes of grain-boundary sliding and superplastic flow accommodated by grain-boundary sliding. A dislocation creep mode has also been considered. The maps can be used to explain the variation of activation energies in the literature for high-temperature plastic deformation, as well as the observation that the mechanism changes from grain-boundary sliding accommodated by diffusion to superplastic flow as grain size decreases
