Hydroelectric power is worldwide the most important source of renewable energy. Still, it has some controversial aspects, which are briefly discussed in this article, focusing on Belgium and the Netherlands

In Nederland en Vlaanderen is het niet meer dan een marginaal verschijnsel, maar wereldwijd is waterkracht de belangrijkste bron van groene stroom. Dat er nauwelijks meer groei in zit, ligt aan het grootschalige, en daardoor omstreden, karakter van de betaalbare optie
