Second-order deconfining transition in SU(2) lattice gauge theory and the continuum limit
Description
We analyze the phase diagram of SU(2)-SO(3) gauge lattice theory using the mean field approximation, expected to be valid in large enough dimension. We observe the appearance of a new confined phase for negative values of the SO(3) coupling constant. A Monte Carlo experiment supports its existence in dimensions 4. This phase is separated from the unconfined phase by a second-order transition line, near which the continuum Yang-Mills field theory is restored. (orig.)
