The remodeling technique of balloon-assisted Guglielmi detachable coil placement in wide-necked aneurysms

Objective: To summarize our clinical experiences on treatment of wide-necked intracranial aneurysms with balloon-assisted Guglielmi detachable coil (GDC) placement. Methods: 18 patients with 20 aneurysms undergone endovascular procedures were reviewed using the remodeling technique. Microcatheter was introduced into the aneurysm sac and the balloon was inflated across the neck of the aneurysm. GDCs were used to embolize the aneurysms. Results: Operations were carried out successfully in 17 of 20 aneurysms. 12 of 17 aneurysms were completely occluded, 4 subtotally (>90%) and 1 incompletely (<90%) occluded. The patients recovered well with patency of the parent arteries after an average of 9.4 months follow-up. Conclusions: The remodeling technique of balloon-assisted guglielmi detachable coil GDC placement is safe and effective in treatment of wide-necked aneurysms
