Various problems and pitfalls in studying metastatic processes and in clarifying important factors involved are discussed with brief overview on historical works. The main subjects included are artificial lung metastasis through i.v. injection VS spontaneous lung metastasis, blood borne tumor cells, clonogenic tumor cell release assay, and effect of irradiation of tumors and lung tissues on metastasis.
