Crystal structure of dimeric tetraquadipyridinioacetateytterbium(III) perchlorate [Yb(C5H5NCH2CO2)2.4(H2O)]2.(ClO4)6

Description

The title complex dimeric tetraquadipyridinioacetateytterbium perchlorate ([Yb(C5H5NCH2COO)2.4(H2O)]2.(ClO4)6 has been prepared by reacting ytterbium perchlorate with pyridine betaine (pyridinioacetate) in warm water and its x-ray crystal structure has been determined. The ytterbium(III) ion is surrounded by four carboxylato O atoms and four aqua-ligands in an eight-coordinate approximate dodecahedral arrangements. The average Yb-O (aqua), Yb-O (carboxylato) bond distances are 2.366(3) and 2.283(3) A respectively. (author)
