Experience in the case of acceptance of fuel and fuel elements for light water reactors

Within the frame of the licensing procedure authorised insepction agencies check the quality assurance of the supplier and the quality of fuel elements and their components. The experience of the inspectors of TUV Norddeutschland shows that deviations within the limits of specifications became less in 1977 compared with 1972. During the past years special data of the specifications have been changed in such a manner, that production induced systematic failure mechanisms, e.g. hydriding, have been eliminated. The checks concerning fuel and components of fuel elements satisfy the requirements for safety. (Auth.)
