Group 3A and 4A substituted AB5 hydrides
Description
Crystallographic cell volume data are presented for a series of alloys LaNi/sub 5-x/M/sub x/(M = Al, Ga, In, Si, Ge, Sn) for x = 0 to 0.5. Pressure-composition desorption isotherms were measured for the hydrides of LaNi46Si04 and LaNi46Ge04 at 30, 40, and 600C. From plots of ln P vs. 1/T the enthalpies and entropies of transition were calculated to be -8.5 kcal/mol of H2 and -27.3 cal/(mol of H2 deg) for LaNi46Si04H/sub y/ and -8.2 kcal/mol of H2 and -26.5 cal/(mol of H2 deg) for LaNi46Ge04H/sub y/. The thermodynamic quantities as well as the hysteresis behavior of these hydrides are compared to data previously obtained for the hydrides of LaNi46Al04, LaNi46Ga04, LaNi46In04, and LaNi46Sn04
