Solid state detectors for radiotherapy dosimetry

Full text: Solid state detectors have several advantages for relative dosimetry in radiotherapy, due to their small volumes, high sensitivities, low costs etc. In the present study, a silicon diode of the type IN 4007 and a PTW type 60003 diamond detector have been used for relative dose measurements in radiotherapy such as output variation with field size in a 60Co teletherapy unit, variation of dose with depths in water and beam uniformity. A reference ionisation chamber of the type NE 2571 also has been used in these measurements for comparison. The results have shown that silicon diode gives an over response in the measurements of output variation with field size of the60Co teletherapy unit. Generally, the results presented in the paper demonstrate the advantages and usefulness of these solid state detectors for relative dosimetry in radiotherapy
