Gas-liquid chromatographic separation of irradiated mixtures of provitamins D and vitamins D on glass capillary column

Description
Gas-liquid chromatographic (GLC) separation of irradiated mixtures of provitamins D and vitamins D on wall coated open tubler glass capillary column (capillary column) was investigated and the results were compared with those on packed column. A glass capillary (0.25mmx28m) was wall-coated by OV-17, whereas a packed column was made by packing a glass column (0.3x260cm) with 1.5% OV-17 on Shimalite W (80-100 mesh). When the reaction mixtures of ergosterol, 7-dehydrocholesterol, vitamin D2 and D3 irradiated by the monochromatic light at 295mm were trimethylsilylated and then applied to the both GLC, the peaks obtained by the capillary column-GLC were generally sharper than those obtained by the packed column-GLC. The former's theoretical plate efficiency and resolution were better than the latter's. The peaks of suprasterol I and II unseparatable by the packed column could be separated each other by the capillary column. (auth.)
