Determination of total inorganic arsenic in potable water through spectroscopy of atomic absorption with generation of hydride

Arsenic is an element that has been studied in the analysis of environmental samples for its toxicity showed in very low concentrations. The objective of this work is the validation of a method for the determination of total inorganic arsenic in drinking water. Through the spectrophotometric technique of atomic absorption an automatic system of flow injection for the generation of hydrides is used. The prereduction of Arsenic was made with potasium iodide 1,5% m/v and ascorbic acid 0.25% m/v dissolved in hydrochloric acid 3,7% m/v. The recuperation percentage of the method was 97 ± 3% in a dynamic range to 30 μg/L. The detection limit was 0,7 μg/L established over 0,5 mL of sample. The samples analyzed were found under the set limits of normative in Costa Rica of 10 μg/L. (author)

El arsenico es un elemento que ha sido estudiado en el analisis de muestras ambientales debido a la toxicidad que presenta en muy bajas concentraciones. En este trabajo se propone y valida un metodo para la determinacion de arsenico inorganico total, en agua potable, mediante la tecnica espectrofotometrica de absorcion atomica. Se utiliza un sistema automatico de inyeccion de flujo para la generacion de hidruros. La prerreduccion del arsenico se realizo con yoduro de potasio 1,5% m/v y acido ascorbico 0,25% m/v en acido clorhidrico 3,7% v/v. El porcentaje de recuperacion del metodo fue 97 ± 3% en un ambito dinamico de hasta 30 μg/L. El limite de deteccion fue de 0,7 μg/L establecido sobre 0,5 mL de muestra. Las muestras analizadas se encontraron por debajo de los limites establecidos por la normativa en Costa Rica de 10 μg/L. (autor)Additional details
