Beam-charge and beam-spin azimuthal asymmetries in deeply-virtual Compton scattering

Description

The present thesis describes the measurement of the azimutal charge and spin asymmetries in the deeply virtual Compton scattering on the proton. The data were token with the HERMES experiment at HERA by scattering of a longitudinally polarized positron respectively electron beam with an energy of 27.6 GeV on an unpolarized hydrogen gas target. For the first time all relevant moments of the azimutal dependences of both asymmetries inclusive higher-twist contributions were extracted as function of the kinematical variables xB, Q2, and t. The leading moment of the beam-spin asymmetry, integrated over the whole kinematical range, agrees well with two earlier measurements at HERMES and CLAS at the Jefferson Lab. The measurement of the charge asymmetry is worldwide unique. The comparison of the extracted moments with the predictions of theoretical models for the generalized parton distributions shows that the models describe well the sign, the quantity, and the behaviour of the asymmetries in relation with the kinematical variables. It is additionally possible to favorize first ranges for the model parameters
