Radiation therapy

Description

Both pre- and postoperative radiotherapy of malignant tumours are considered. For prevention of local metastases preoperative irradiation is preferred and when a tumour shows a tendency to local recurrences, postoperative radiotherapy in a moderate dose is desirable. In uveal melanoma radiotherapy can play a role postoperatively, when the tumour has extraocular extension and preoperatively, when the surgeon is afraid that manipulation may cause distant metastases.
