Packaging and Transportation Initiatives at the Idaho National Laboratory - 18551

A wide variety of radioactive and hazardous materials are handled, packaged and transported at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), operated by the Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA) for the US Department of Energy (DOE). The INL Packaging and Transportation (P and T) organization, contracted to AREVA Federal Services LLC (AFS), provides professional skilled staff to coordinate and support packaging and transportation activities at the INL. This includes subject matter expertise in packaging engineering and licensing, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), and Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Material regulations. This paper demonstrates and provides examples of the advantages of the organizational and technical methodologies used for P and T at the INL. (authors)
