Long-term monitoring of the surroundings of MAPE Mydlovary
- 1. National Radiation Protection Institute, Prague (Czech Republic)
Description
MAPE Mydlovary is an abandoned uranium ore reprocessing facility. Mill tailings remaining at MAPE constitute a potential source of radioactive contamination of the surroundings. 238U and 226Ra activities in atmospheric fallout from the MAPE surroundings have been monitored by the National Radiation Protection Institute since 1997. Fallout samples have been taken from two sampling sites approximately 4 and 7 km far from MAPE. The results are compared with the analogous results from the other parts of the Czech Republic. In 2005, 238U activity was measured in soil from MAPE and from its surroundings. No increase in 238U or 226Ra has been observed. (orig.)
